Why Sugarloaf?

One of the largest ski areas east of the Rocky Mountains, Sugarloaf boasts 162 trails and glades, over 1240 acres of skiable terrain, with a 2820 foot vertical drop. Sugarloaf also has the East’s only cat-skiing for backcountry excursions and a vast network of well-maintained cross country ski trails good for both classic and skating skiing, as well as snowshoeing. Sugarloaf offers a variety of terrain ranging from above tree line skiing in the Snowfields to well groomed steep runs for experts, to gentle slopes for beginners.  Known for its pristine nature and short lift lines, Sugarloaf is within driving distance of all Northeastern states, and Portland, ME airport is only 2.5 hours away.
